AAHEP - Association for Animals, Horticultural & Equine Practitioners

We offer two primary pathways for Organisational Membership:

  • Training Providers: For colleges, schools, and organisations that train and qualify professionals in our sectors.
  • Non-Training Organisations: For practices, charities, and other organisations that provide services but do not offer training.

Membership for Training Providers

This membership is for organisations offering courses that lead to professional qualifications. By joining, you signal to students that your training meets the high standards of a dedicated professional body.

A key benefit is that your graduates from AAHEP-accredited courses will be eligible to join AAHEP as professional members, adding significant value and recognition to your qualifications.

Our Accreditation Ethos

We believe that working professionally with animals, plants, and horses is a vocation, not just a job. This ethos should be at the heart of any course we accredit.

A core part of our mission is to champion the diversity and creativity within our fields. While we uphold National Occupational Standards where necessary for public protection, we actively oppose rigid, one-size-fits-all state regulation that could stifle innovation in animal, horticultural, and equine-assisted practices.

With this in mind, we are happy to assess courses that may not follow mainstream views but are still based on sound, ethical principles in our modalities. We acknowledge and support a wide range of approaches, including alternative, spiritual, or faith-based methods.

We offer two tiers for training providers:

Organisational Member (Training)

This is our standard level for all training providers. It allows you to accredit your courses and gives your graduates a clear path to professional membership.

To become an Organisational Member, your organisation must:

  • Be relevant to and support AAHEP's aims and objectives.
  • Preferably have been in existence for one year (new ventures may be accepted; please ask).
  • Possess a course administrative structure compatible with our requirements.
  • Follow a Code of Ethics compatible with ours.
  • Hold key policies: Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, and Terms & Conditions (including complaints and refund policies).
  • Note: We can provide templates for the required policies for UK-based organisations. We do not supply templates for non-UK companies, as laws vary.

What you receive:

  • An official digital badge (Organisational Member) for your website, social media, and correspondence.
  • A digital "Accredited Course" or "Endorsed Course" badge.
  • An annual Certificate of Organisational Membership.
  • The ability to have your courses (Ofqual Level 3-6 equivalent) formally accredited by AAHEP.

Chartered Organisational Member (Training)

This is our "gold standard" tier. It is for organisations committed to the highest standards of ethical and responsible business, demonstrating to students and the public that you are a leader in the field.

To achieve Chartered status, you must meet all standard membership requirements plus demonstrate commitment to the following principles:

  • Transparent Operations: Clear, published Terms & Conditions and a privacy policy that conforms to national data protection laws.
  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion: A published EDI policy demonstrating commitment to opposing all forms of discrimination.
  • Graduate Support: A clear policy of providing ongoing support to graduates for a minimum of 12 months (e.g., supervision, CPD, or support groups).
  • Pay & Contracts: Commitment to paying the Real Living Wage (not the National Minimum Wage) to all employees and contracted tutors, and using fair, transparent contracts.
  • Employee Well-being: Policies that support and encourage the physical and mental well-being of all staff.
  • Environmental Responsibility: A demonstrable commitment to reducing your environmental impact.
  • Ethical Sourcing: A commitment to sourcing from suppliers who uphold fair labour standards.
  • Prompt Payment: A commitment to paying all suppliers (accountants, directories, insurers, etc.) on time.

Membership for Non-Training Organisations

This membership is designed for organisations that practice in our sector but do not offer practitioner training.

Non-Profit Organisations

  • Who it's for: Charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), trusts, and support groups.
  • Requirements: Must offer services free of charge or at a minimal, discretionary cost. (Organisations providing paid corporate wellness sessions are an exception).

For-Profit Organisations

  • Who it's for: Group practices, therapy directories, or other professional bodies.
  • Requirements:
    • All team members must hold a relevant qualification, have insurance, and belong to a professional body.
    • Your website must clearly display your Terms of Business, an EDI policy, and a Privacy Policy.
    • This membership does not confer AAHEP membership status on individual practitioners in your team. They may not use the AAHEP logo unless they are individual members.
